2015 BET Awards: Sam Smith, ‘Empire’s’ Terence Howard among winners

BET -The 2015 BET Awards are taking place tonight, and of course there has already been plenty of discussion when it comes to the winners. This is a little bit of a different show than many others of its caliber, given that it is focusing on more than just music. You’ve also got movies, TV shows, and other subjects that are all going to generate plenty of attention. This also means more potential opportunities to get some big-name stars in attendance.

As always when we cover these sort of shows, the list below will be updated a little bit as time passes. Stay tuned for some further information when it comes to that! Ironically, not everyone who won was actually in attendance on the night.

Best New Artist – Sam Smith. There was a big moment that took place after this award, where host Anthony Anderson commented on how Smith probably thought he had no chance at this award because “he’s white.”

Best Female Hip-Hop Artist – Nicki Minaj.

Best Actor – Terence Howard. We cover TV, so it’s easy to comment on this one. “Empire” is great, and this is very much deserved.

Male R&B Artist – Chris Brown.

Male Hip-Hop Artist – Nicki Minaj.

Lifetime Achievement – Smokey Robinson.

Centric Award – The Weeknd, “Earned It.”

Our biggest takeaway from the BET Awards? It’s really the same takeaway that we have from other awards show. This is LONG, way longer than it really needs to be. Then again, this is what happens when you cram so much into the production.
