‘Poldark’ episode 2 review: Ross takes a dip, Demelza meets Elizabeth

The second enough of “Poldark” aired on PBS Sunday night, and it proved to continue along the story of Ross in a compelling way, and for a variety of different reasons. Not only did we have a series of supremely entertaining moments of the course of the hour, but we also had more information when it comes Ross’ family life, the villain that is George, and also the rise of Demelza as an interesting character on this show.

Demelza’s interaction with Elizabeth was one of many interesting moments through this episode, but more so than any one individual moment (sure, we know plenty out there enjoyed getting a chance to see Ross take a dip in the water), what really worked about this episode to us is that nothing is necessarily cut and dry. You have characters like Francis and Verity who have so many different layers throughout just two episodes, just as you also have a lead here who is also flawed, and sometimes blinded by his visions of the past.

Above all episode, what makes this series work right now is the variety of it all. There are moments of traditional British drama, but we massively appreciate some of the more fast-paced sequences, such as what we had with Ross coming to the rescue at the very end.

We may only be two episodes into “Poldark” (at least in America), but there is a whole lot to like here! Hopefully, it will be enough to keep you coming back if you are new to this franchise. Trust us when we say that it is worth it. Grade: A-.
