Ratings: ‘Big Brother 17’ premiere down versus 2014 launch; ‘The Briefcase’ (thankfully) ends
While we are not in the least big concerned over the ratings for “Big Brother” when it comes to its present longevity, this is something that as a numbers junkie, it is very much fun to sort of look at and analyze over time.
Last night, the show drew a 2.0 rating int he 18-49 demographic and close to 7 million viewers for its premiere episode, which is down from the 2.3 premiere that last year’s premiere drew. Is that a cause for concern? Not really, but we do think that this season did not have as great of a marketing campaign since the BB Takeover twist was so hard to wrap your head around.
The ratings trajectory of this show in general over the course of the season can be a little bit odd for a variety of reasons, with the biggest one being that the show does tend to draw in more and more viewers over time. Therefore, we do not quite think that the numbers right now are going to be the same numbers that the series ends up drawing come a month or so from now. They could be higher, but they could also drop if the cast ends up being a bummer.
The biggest thing that we are worried about for now is simply the fact that the show’s BB Takeover twist could have a different game almost every week, and for some more casual viewers who miss an episode here or there, won’t this get confusing? It’s going to be tough at times even for some of the diehard fans of the show!
In other news, “The Briefcase” ended with a 0.9. Let us hope we never speak of this show and its at-times cruel concept again.
