‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 7 review: TV dinner drama and a double-elimination

MasterChef -Going into tonight’s new episode of “MasterChef,” we were hoping that it was going to be something that allowed for creativity, and a variety of other fun ideas that we had not envisioned on the show. It’s TV dinner night!

Unfortunately, these TV dinners were marred slightly by all being a variation on Salisbury steak, which hardly allows for that much creativity save for a few different ingredients here and there. After the increasingly-dominant Derrick won the Mystery Box challenge themed around breakfast (and was cocky for days as a result of it), he then forced everyone to cook Christina Tosi’s favorite, while saddling Christopher with the disadvantage of the delayed start. We were somewhat surprised that he picked him, given how Shelly tried to target them both this past episode and we figured he wanted revenge on her.

Christopher pushed through, but Nick and Olivia (who has been very quiet so far this season) were ultimately the winners. Meanwhile, there were many that struggled.

When we found out about the double elimination tonight, we have to say that we really were not surprised. Not only that, but we were also not surprised to see that Hetal survived over Jesse and Veronica. She has received the greatest amount of airtime of the three, Jesse has been super-quiet, and Veronica had been in danger before and was not always grasping the purpose of the challenges.

In the end, tonight provided some fun, but we cannot say that these TV dinners made for as much TV entertainment as we’d hoped. Grade: C+.
