Cable ratings: ‘Devious Maids’ season 3 falls; ‘UnREAL’ episode 4 stays low

Devious Maids -This is proving to be a pretty weak year when it comes to scripted content on Lifetime. We’ve already seen the network cancel “Witches of East End,” and now “UnREAL” is a major disappointment commercially (it’s still awesome creatively) and even the flagship “Devious Maids” is struggling.

In the numbers released from last night per TVbythenumbers, the most-recent episode of “Devious Maids” posted a little over 1.1 million viewers and also a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is a pretty steep drop from this time last year; the fourth episode of season 2 of the show had over 1.6 million viewers, and a 0.6 rating in the demo. Only one episode last season came close to this number. We hope that there is at least still a chance the show returns, mostly because it is not like Lifetime really has that much else going on at the moment in the scripted department.

We’ve already submitted that “UnREAL” is probably not going to get a second season, and we just want to see it play out until the very end. There’s a slight caveat with last night’s episode (which scored a 0.2 rating and over 500,000 viewers) in that it has been available online for well over a week; however, we really have not seen that big of a correlation between this and live ratings over the years.

For those curious, “The Fosters” also drew a 0.4 rating and slightly over a million viewers, but we are still a little more optimistic about its future than either of the two other shows mentioned here.
