‘Sunday Night Football’ retains Carrie Underwood for 2015-16 season
While it may be quick to dismiss most news when it comes to “Sunday Night Football,” you do have to remember that alongside “Empire,” this is the most-popular regularly-scheduled primetime program on network TV. NFL football is a pastime that never seems to go away, and one of the best gigs for any artist out there is getting to perform the theme song. It is an injection of almost instant publicity, and this is precisely what Carrie Underwood received in taking over the duties from Faith Hill.
Today, we are pleased to report that these are duties that Carrie is going to continue to hold on to her theme-song duties for another year. Why are country artists so routinely chosen for this? It’s pretty easy to figure out that since the genre has such deep roots already in the south, it makes some sense for them to continue to promote the genre as much as they can. Plus, Underwood is someone who is mainstream enough that even those who do not listen to country music know who she is. Basically, they want to appeal to the largest audience possible.
“Sunday Night Football” will once again span the entirety of the fall season, but NBC is not going to have the honor of hosting the Super Bowl this year. That will instead go to CBS, who has not decided just yet what show is going to come after it. Our guess? “Supergirl” would be a good fit for families.
