‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12: Katherine Heigl dismisses idea of returning

The future -Was there really any talk at all that Katherine Heigl was going to be returning to “Grey’s Anatomy” for season 12? We don’t think so. While there was a fun piece written by TVLine a little while ago suggesting why the show should allow Izzie back into the fold before the series comes to a close, we have seen zero indication at all that show creator Shonda Rhimes wants to see that happen. She has never shown an interest in bringing back the character, and we feel like for the most part, this is probably due mostly to the way in which she departed the show.

So with this in mind, you cannot be shocked to see Heigl saying that there’s no truth to any “rumors” (were there actual rumors?) that she would be coming back in a new interview below with “Entertainment Tonight.” She also reacts in there to the departure of Patrick Dempsey from the series after he was such a key component in its success.

We imagine that there are still torn feelings and will continue to be on the subject of Heigl potentially coming back to the show. Personally, we would like to see it happen at some point before we get to the end of the series, if for no other reason than that the fans deserve a little more closure. This show really isn’t about anyone else when the dust settles, and it can be just a brief appearance similar to what we had from Isaiah Washington.

Season 12 starts filming a little later this summer, but we presume that there really won’t be any buzz around an Izzie return until we are actually in the show’s final season.
