‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: ‘Off the Map’ alum to be latest series regular

The future -Shonda Rhimes is still keen to support some previous series stars … even if they were not around for a particularly long time.

With that, we are pleased to report today that “Off the Map” alumni Martin Henderson is poised to be the latest “Grey’s Anatomy” series regular, though there is not much known about the character just yet. While it would be fun to see that this medical show is somehow in the same universe as “Grey’s Anatomy” and he is the same character, that seems unlikely to us, given that this has a ton of built-in backstory attached that we imagine very few people actually remembering.

Presumably, Henderson’s role is the one that producers were hoping to snag a reasonably big name for, and while it may not be a literal replacement for the Derek Shepherd character played by Patrick Dempsey, those comparisons are inevitable. We’re not going to say that this will be a new Meredith Grey love interest or anything of the sort, but we are interested to see how he is worked into this crazy world of the show. Remember that there is no guarantee that season 12 of the show will be the last, especially if there are still some other stories that the producers find themselves wanting to tell.

We imagine that we’ll have some more news to share coming up when it comes to the future of “Grey’s Anatomy,” so be on the lookout for that as production starts up on season 12 a little later this summer.
