‘The Bachelorette’ spoilers: Will Kaitlyn Bristowe, Nick Viall face backlash after tonight’s episode?
Judging from all of the promos that we’ve seen at this point for Monday night’s new episode of “The Bachelorette,” the show has definitely held nothing back when it comes to making us think that Kaitlyn Bristowe and Nick Viall probably sleep together at some point. In turn, this will more than likely lead to her dealing with some hurt feelings among the other guys, many of whom she is still trying to get to know at a very different pace.
So what do we anticipate the reaction to this episode being? Probably not great. Back when Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson had their infamous dip in the ocean on his season of “The Bachelor,” he was blasted pretty hard on social media for it and pestered about it in many interviews. His response? That if someone like Courtney asks you to take your clothes off and get in the ocean, you go along with it. When you remember this, you will know that the precedent is already there for series stars being attacked for their behavior.
Yet, we imagine that come tomorrow morning, the internet may be even more insane with reactions one way or another. Some will go on and on about how this is disrespectful for the show (wait, what was ever respectful for this show?), while some others will say that she is extremely brave for tackling real topics on TV like sex, which many other past Bachelors and Bachelorettes have swept under the rug.
At the end of the day, we understand that it will create great television moments, but also we don’t feel like it is really our business one way or another. If Kaitlyn’s process leads to her finding love and being with someone in the end, isn’t that really the goal? The only thing we do wish out of the season is that rather than playing up so many of the silly dates and focusing on the confrontations, why not actually give us more of a sense as to who Kaitlyn is? She may be the most detached Bachelorette ever, which we think is part of the reason why so many are quick to hate on her. We don’t have a sense of her everyday life, what she does for a living, or really anything else. It’s a stark contrast from some other people like Desiree Hartsock or Ashley Hebert, who we feel we understood on a personal level during their seasons.
