‘Poldark’ episode 2 preview (PBS): What lies ahead for Aidan Turner, cast

Tonight, American viewers are getting an opportunity to see for the first time “Poldark,” a fascinating remake of a British classic that combines much of what you would want in a short drama series. You’ve got emotion, romance, fighting, and also some wonderful period costumes. There is a lot to like here. (Warning: Minor spoilers from the premiere ahead.)

Tonight’s episode will serve as an introduction of sorts to the Ross Poldark character (played by Aidan Turner), and you learn very much about some of his circumstances upon arriving back at Cornwall after spending years away with the army. One specific thing that you learn is that his finances and his family’s status are not exactly the same, and these create some problems when it comes to the tin mine. This is alluded to further in the brief TV Guide synopsis for the second installment:

“Poldark hopes to re-open the family mine, but needs backers if he’s to pull it off. In other events, Verity attracts the attention of a sea captain while at a dance.”

We will not say too much else for now when it comes to specifics of the next episode, other than stating that this is only an eight-episode first season (the show has already been renewed), and it is thanks to this that you can expect things to move along rather quickly. Expect some big story shifts for both Verity and Demelza before the second episode comes to a close.
