‘Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell’ episode 7 (finale) spoilers:

While fans of “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell” are only now starting to really dive into the series on BBC America, the truth here is that it has been airing for many weeks in Great Britain on BBC One. Not only that, but the series is getting set to conclude its first-season run in just a week’s time … and we’ve got some of the first official details in terms of what to expect in the synopsis below:

“With England in chaos as magic returns, Strange comes back home to claim Mr Norrell and rescue Arabella. But can his plan possibly work? Or will the dark prophecy of the Raven King finally be fulfilled?”

This show has felt in some ways to us a bit of a less extreme “Penny Dreadful,” and while its ratings have not necessarily been dreadful entirely for the BBC since its launch, they have not exactly made a huge splash here. Granted, the show has faced some heavy competition, with “Home Fires” over at ITV being at the top of the list for the majority of its run.

Regardless of how this particular story and Arabella’s rescue come to a close, we do hope that the BBC continues to take such intriguing projects on as this. We feel like given the success of shows like “Call the Midwife” there may be a certain temptation to just book more and more period dramas, and while this does have a component of that, there is also a twist that allows it to still stand out further.
