Tonight: ABC brings in ‘Celebrity Family Feud,’ ‘BattleBots’ remake

It could happen -Over the past couple of years, ABC has experimented a little bit when it comes to their unscripted summer programming. Sure, they have shows like “Extreme Weight Loss” or “The Bachelorette” that are a little predictable, but we’ve also had brilliant experiments such as “Whodunnit?” or “The Quest” that have come on the air. We do wish that one of them had a chance of coming on for another season, even though that does seem pretty unlikely at this point in time.

So while we are somewhat bummed that our favorites did not exactly carve out much of a future for themselves thanks to their ratings, we are still nonetheless very much pleased that we’re getting more “BattleBots” after so many years of it off the air! It is somewhat interesting that this is the network that we are getting more of it own, given that the original was for some reason a Comedy Central project and that is clearly not the network’s wheelhouse at this given point in time. Let’s go ahead and get to spotlighting what will be the network’s lineup starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time tonight.

“Celebrity Family Feud” – It’s funny that we’ve actually begun to associate this more with “Saturday Night Live” than the actual show, but Steve Harvey is coming to primetime tonight! We’ve watched a ton of “Family Feud” over the years, and we therefore imagine that it will be a good time. Is this necessarily television that you are going to remember in a few days? Probably not, but it’s probably the right kind of summer diversion. There’s no real commitment to it, and you can watch based on either the concept, or you like a given celebrity.

“BattleBots” – We remember watching the original series and enjoying it, mostly because it was a chance to see a little bit of innovation, and to us combat is always a little more fun when it is scientific and no one is actually getting hurt. This show be a fun test of creativity and to see how much the technology has improved in the past decade-plus. Unfortunately for the show, this is a rough timeslot. You’re up against “True Detective” on HBO, and in a few weeks “Ray Donovan” on Showtime. “The Last Ship” is also premiering tonight.
