‘The Celebrity Apprentice’: Donald Trump camp offers different stance on show’s future

Donald Trump -

Is there already confusion in the ranks of “The Celebrity Apprentice“? It certainly seems that way more and more, at least based on what we have been hearing ever since Donald Trump decided that he is actually going to run for President.

According to a report from TMZ, Trump’s sources claim that the show is simply going to go dark while he is in the middle of his Presidential run, since NBC cannot give disproportionate airtime to him over any other candidate. However, this contradicts somewhat NBC’s stance, as they said in a statement earlier this year that they could “re-evaluate” the role of Trump as host, should it become necessarily. If he becomes President, for example, they would likely want to keep the franchise going … and maybe at that point he wouldn’t quite care.

The problem is that for those of us who care strictly about a really silly reality TV show, there’s no clear solution. We know there is an outcry of some to hire Ivanka Trump, but would there still be a conflict of interest there given her ties to Donald during the campaign? Bringing in someone else may keep conflicts from happening, but would it work for the show? We enjoy “The Celebrity Apprentice” mostly because nobody takes it that seriously, and maybe a new host actually would.

One way or another, this franchise probably is not done. NBC got solid ratings out of it earlier this year, and it did so with a cast of mostly D-listers. They’ll want to figure out something for this show moving into the future. Their fall schedule is set, so it’s not coming on in the near future.
