‘Penny Dreadful’ season 2, episode 7 preview: Ethan and Vanessa take a walk

Is there a reason for Vanessa to be afraid on “Penny Dreadful”? Based on the sneak peek from Sunday night’s new episode, you can sense the insecurity and frustration that is within her at this point. Can you really blame her based on what she has been up against?

This is where Ethan comes into play, as he offers up what can be best described as a pep talk in the woods. The line “we have claws for a reason” here is tremendous, given that it plays into the supernatural themes of the show in some ways, while also being a great metaphor to the fight that they have within them. While Ethan may only be “one man” (to use Vanessa’s own words), sometimes being one man is enough to make an enormous difference. In this case, we better hope that it is.

By the time we make it to the end of this episode, maybe we’ll figure out more precisely what Vanessa’s intentions are. Anything that gives us more scenes between these two characters is something to be excited about.

One thing that we’re not excited about? that there are only three episodes left after this episode airs, and we’re still awaiting officially to see what Showtime wants to do next. So long as the show is back, we really don’t care if the episode order is eight or ten. Mostly, we’re just surprised that John Logan has figured out a way to write eighteen episodes of television over the past two years and still have time to sleep. He’s in rare company with Nic Pizzolatto, Julian Fellowes, and few others.
