‘Silicon Valley’ season 2 finale spoilers: Thomas Middleditch on Richard’s mindset
When we last left off on “Silicon Valley,” Richard and the entire team at Pied Piper was not exactly in the best place known to man. They had invested so much and money into making this compression company into the next big thing, but a lawsuit brought on by Gavin Belson may have ruined everything. He had the money and the power to figure out Richard’s mistake, and now the underdogs are probably more at risk of losing everything than they have been almost since the very beginning of the series.
So is there really any optimism left in our intrepid hero? It does not really sound like it, based on what star Thomas Middleditch told The Hollywood Reporter in previewing the episode:
“He’s reached the point where he thinks that the tiny technicality [him using one of Hooli’s computers at one point to work on his algorithm] doesn’t really mean anything but because it’s still against the rules — if that is going to take away his company and everything that he’s worked for — he can’t do it. He’s given up, saying, ‘I’m not going to lie for this, and if it screws me, then so be it.'”
So how will Richard get out of this … or will he? We anticipate that it could take some cleverness, but we don’t exactly see the team busting out another extended sequence regarding a certain part of the male anatomy as a useful metaphor (even if that was a personal highlight from the first season).
