‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Cast, crew to be honored by BAFTA
In a statement confirming the honor, here is what the show’s own executive producer Julian Fellowes had to say:
“I speak for the entire cast and crew when I say how honoured we are that the Academy will recognise the show with this special award.
“Not only is Downton a much-loved show in Britain, it has had huge success in both the US and right around the world, waving the flag for Britain and our creative content and that’s why the Bafta recognition means so much to us all.”
We feel like speaking about the show’s legacy is at the moment very important, since this is something that almost goes hand in hand with the brilliance of the content itself. Before it premiered, we feel like the majority of British imports were more or less an afterthought in America, or were reserved more for niche markets. Some of us knew of the wondrous nature of shows like “Fawlty Towers,” but the majority of people had never even heard of it or any others. “Downton” changed that.
