‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: One reason Maggie Smith is happy all is ending
While we are waiting for “Downton Abbey” to air starting this fall in Britain and early 2016 in America, isn’t it nice to hear a thing or two from the actors who are seeing it off into the sunset? We like to think so, which is why we are bringing you a few more comments from Maggie Smith about why she is happy to move on … and how fashion may be a major part of it.
Speaking in a new interview with Yours magazine (via the Telegraph), the actress did her part to try and explain some of just how difficult it is to have to wear some of the period costumes, in particular the corsets, that define Violet and so many other people:
“It’s not riotously funny to be in corsets … [We] have had a great time making the show—the cast are enchanting and all the young [actors] are really lovely, so it was all very enjoyable on that level. . .We’re really an ensemble, and that’s a wonderful thing to be part of. [T]o tell you the truth, the corsets are agony. God knows how they lived in the days when they had to wear them all the time.”
Ultimately, we’re just happy that there are six seasons and the show got to tell a complete story, uncomfortable fashion and all. It is not often that any British drama lasts that long, and we hope this all leads to a great ending for the Dowager Countess.
