‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Annie Wersching to return as Lily Salvatore

The latest -For all of those who are wondering whether or not Annie Wersching is going to be back as Lily Salvatore on “The Vampire Diaries,” the time for waiting is over! As first reported by TheWrap, the actress is going to be coming back for a major recurring arc as Damon and Stefan’s mother during the upcoming seventh season.

Are we really shocked by this? Not really at all, mostly for the sole reason that the series really needs to book some other recurring players to make up for all of the changes.  Nina Dobrev is gone, and so are Michael Trevino and Stephen R. McQueen. The show is going to have to focus on a variety of other things to help compensate for all of this, and Lily is a familiar face at this point.

Also, there are a variety of different dynamics that the show can throw into the mix here to continue to make things exciting with Lily. For example, just think about Enzo’s history here, and we’re very interested in giving that character something more to do.

One other question we’re going to throw out here is strictly this: With this show and “The Originals” airing on the same night in the fall, is it possible that there could be some actual crossovers coming up? We’d hope so, given that this is an avenue that the show has really not explored as much as they could over the series’ history.
