‘The View’ officially hires Raven-Symone as new co-host
We knew that many of the women on “The View” wanted to see Raven-Symone be a permanent addition to the show family, and we are glad to say that it is finally official. ABC confirmed today that the former “That’s So Raven” star, who recently also recurred on Fox’s “Empire,” is going to be a permanent co-host following the exit of Rosie O’Donnell earlier this year. In a statement, she thanked the show’s parent company, who has clearly been very good to her over the years with career opportunities:
“The Disney Company has made another one of my dreams come true! Being a part of The View’family will be a wonderful growing experience for me … I want to thank ABC, ABC News and The Disney Company for believing in me and my potential! Let’s have some fun!”
Meanwhile, we also have the following message from executive producer Bill Wolff:
“Raven is smart, funny and genuine … She brings a fresh perspective on the hot topics of the day, and she’s a lively, welcome addition to our conversations and interviews.”
We feel like ultimately, “The View” needs stability more than anything else, and the great thing about Raven-Symone’s gig is that it seems to have come up organically, and as a result of several appearances on the show, where she gained a following among the audience and the fellow co-hosts at the same time.
Audience-wise, this is also a smart hire, given that many women who are now young adults likely grew up watching her on TV in between the Disney Channel series as “The Cosby Show” before that. It’s a chance to go after some of them.
