‘Power’ season 2 premiere brings powerful ratings to Starz
Have we perhaps been sleeping a little on “Power” in regards to it being a tremendous ratings force on Starz? We are starting to think so, especially after having viewed the show’s latest numbers for the premiere from over the weekend.
With 1.427 million people watching the drama starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson live, this makes the show the highest-rated premiere telecast in the history of the network. Most of the talk with Starz lately has been about “Outlander,” but this show is clearly proving that it is in need of extra attention. Also, it’s clear that more and more viewers are subscribing to this network. We’re not so much interested in demo ratings for the show in this particular instance, mostly because they do not really matter so much without the advertiser model present.
Will the show be able to keep ratings this high throughout the season? While we cannot say that with the utmost certainty, we can at least boast further here that the show is up tremendously over this time in season 1. Year-to-year growth is something you hope for with cable series, given that you want word-of-mouth to spread over time. It’s a little different than the broadcast TV model, where shows are easily accessible and you really just hope to have as many people watching from the get-go as humanly possible.
We’ll keep watch on the show’s ratings moving forward; if nothing else, this is a pretty good sign that “Power” is not going to be going anywhere on the network at any point in the near future.
