‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Prepare for Merlin, Arthur, and Guinevere

While we know that “Once Upon a Time” was looking to bring in Merlin for its upcoming fifth season, who knew that the show was interested in bringing in all of King Arthur’s court? It certainly comes as a surprise, but a welcome one to say the least?

According to a new report from TVLine, the series is looking to cast the famed wizard alongside King Arthur and the famed Guinevere. For Merlin, they are specifically looking for an African-American man in his thirties or forties with a British accent; given that they already have one elderly man with a giant beard on the show, it’s understandable they would want their Merlin to look a little different than the Disney cartoons. Meanwhile, Guinevere is listed as a “headstrong” woman to be played by a Latina actress in her mid-twenties to mid-thirties. There is no specific ethnicity mentioned for Arthur, but the age range is thirties to forties.

All of these roles are meant to be heavily recurring, which means that we are going in the direction of an Arthurian theme to the first eleven episodes of season 5 in general. The only real surprise to us is that they are not capitalizing on a recent Disney movie as they did with the “Frozen” arc as well as with Maleficent. We thought for a time that bringing back Cinderella for a big story was the obvious choice.

Obviously, we imagine that all of these means there is a good chance to bring back Sinqua Walls as Lancelot, given that he was someone we first got a chance to know seasons ago, and the character had a romantic relationship with Guinevere.
