‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Jason George upped to series regular

The future -For all of you out there who enjoy watching the story of Bailey and Ben on “Grey’s Anatomy,” you are going to see a whole lot more of them moving forward.

As first reported today by Entertainment Weekly, Jason George has been officially promoted to series regular for the upcoming 12th season of the ABC series. We feel in part that this is something that the series has really wanted to do for a while not, but the actor has been busy on other projects. Namely, he was a key player on “Mistresses” as a love interest to Alyssa Milano’s character of Savi. With her now out of the picture on that show, this frees him up seemingly to have a more permanent role in the Shondaland stable.

One other reason to potentially see more of Ben is simply a way to help take up some of the screen time left behind by Patrick Dempsey. ABC is also casting an actor (potentially a well-known one) to play an important role on the upcoming season, and one that feels in some ways like a spiritual successor to Derek even if he is not a literal one. By that, we mostly mean that we don’t expect him to just be a love interest for Meredith Grey or anything. That seems like too easy a road to travel.

“Grey’s Anatomy” season 12 will officially premiere on ABC later this fall, and should start filming within the next couple of months. We imagine that there will be some other casting news announced, and we will have it for you as it becomes available.
