‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Peter Capaldi’s ‘The Thick of It’ co-star joins

Doctor Who -Before becoming the twelfth Doctor on BBC’s “Doctor Who,” one of the things that Peter Capaldi was perhaps best known for was his role in “The Thick of It,” a British drama that spanned several years and also aired through the same network.

Given his sterling reputation and his ties to that series, it really should not come as a shock that one of his former co-stars is now coming aboard his new series! The network confirms that Rebecca Front, who appeared in more than a dozen episodes of “The Thick of It,” is going to play some sort of a part on the upcoming ninth “Doctor Who” season. With that being said, the network is not entirely keen on giving many more details than that.

What we know about this upcoming season (which will most likely premiere in late August) is that much of the joy of it will come from seeing some major risks taken by Steven Moffat and the entirety of the writing staff. There will be more two-part episodes, new locations and adversaries, and then also a few other favorites like Michelle Gomez as the Master. Some other guest stars include Rufus Hound and also Maisie Williams of “Game of Thrones” fame.

We imagine that we will have the first teaser trailer for the new season at some point a little later this summer, though it is BBC custom to sometimes wait until incredibly close to a premiere date in order to announce official details.
