‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Michelle Dockery lands post-show role alongside ‘The Affair’ actor
While “Downton Abbey” will be done with filming a little bit later this year, we had a general feeling that the majority of the cast was not going to be out of work for a long time. This is being further realized now courtesy of the latest story out there regarding Michelle Dockery, who is returning to one of her first loves in the stage after her time on the ITV series is over.
Sources confirm (per the Express) that the actress behind Lady Mary will join a version of Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Donmar Warehouse in London. This is a chance for her to showcase her ability as Madame de Tourvel, while Dominic West of “The Affair” will play the character “Vicomte de Valmont.” For those unfamiliar with the original work, it serves as the basis for the 1988 film “Dangerous Liaisons” starring John Malkovich.
We are obviously more than thrilled for Dockery, given that following up a TV series can in some ways be challenging. You have to deal with fears of being typecast for one, and to go along with that you also have to wonder what sort of roles are out there, and if you can ever strike lightning in a bottle again. Remember here that no one anticipated that “Downton Abbey” would be a global success story in the way that it has been, and while the ratings are winding down somewhat in the United Kingdom, it is still drawing better viewing figures globally than the majority of other shows out there.
Season 6 will most likely premiere on ITV this fall, while Americans can expect to see more of early next year.
