‘Britain’s Got Talent’: ITV boss admits to mistakes in handling Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse
While the controversy regarding the final of “Britain’s Got Talent” has not gone completely away just yet, we do feel like it will be sooner rather than later. Are there some people out there reasonably upset by winner Jules O’Dwyer using another similar-looking dog in the place of Matisse for a trick? Sure, but at the same time we’re talking about only a few hundred official complaints here. We also still believe that while it would have been nice to know the dogs are different, it does not change the impressiveness of the trick itself.
With this in mind, we know that O’Dwyer is keeping her title, even though the boss of ITV is still having to speak out on the show’s failure to really represent all facets of the situation better. Speaking at the Voice of the Listener and Viewer’s spring conference (per BBC), Peter Fincham had the following message to pass along:
“In the semi-final it was made quite clear the other dog played a role in it … In the audition it was made quite clear this was a dog act with a range of dogs. In hindsight, in the final it would have been better if that was clear.”
At the end of the day, we hope that this does not preclude O’Dwyer from having a warm return to the show next year, or a place in the Royal Variety. As for runner-up Jamie Raven, we feel like he did enough with his magic act to be successful for a long time moving forward. Magic is one of those things that never truly gets old.
