‘The Last Ship’ season 2 trailer: A different battle lies ahead

Last Ship -Here’s how effective “The Last Ship” can be when it comes to their storytelling: While their latest trailer does not even contain an actual ship in any form, we’re still completely hooked by it. It’s intense, dramatic, and it does a good job both of appealing to new fans and those who watched the first season closely.

The first thing that it does effectively is set the stage, including the reminder that the virus has eradicated so many, but also that there is a cure in existence. The problem? Not everyone wants that cure flying around, and chaos is erupting in just about every way. There’s an effective visual motif in here to further illustrate some of the bloodshed that has already happened, and some that is probably coming.

The new season premieres on TNT Sunday, June 21, and other than competing against “True Detective,” one of the main challenges for the writers will be figuring out how to make this new batch of episodes just as suspenseful and exciting as the one that came before it. When you already had such an impressive action budget, how do you continue to raise the game? What other twists can you implement?

We’ll echo the same thing that we’ve said in other articles: We obviously want Chandler to survive, and to go along with that, we do hope the show keeps at least a certain degree of hope in this season. Like with “Falling Skies,” that is what we grasp onto.
