‘The Last Ship’ season 2 spoilers: First look at two-hour premiere

Last Ship -TNT has some very big plans coming for their upcoming second season of “The Last Ship,” and only a small fraction of them are going to be clear at this very moment. This is a show and in turn a network that wants to keep things relatively coy, especially since the element of surprise is so much what fuels us as viewers to keep going and seeing what happens to this crew.

June 21 is when the season 2 premiere is going to air, and you better remember here to either set aside two hours for the start of the journey. TNT just unveiled the synopsis for these episodes, and it makes it clear just what Chandler is going to be forced to deal with. Granted, there are plenty of other developments to go along with it:

“After the horrifying revelations and reversals of fortune in Baltimore, Chandler and his fractured team join forces with an underground resistance in an attempt to defeat Amy Granderson. With doses of the cure running low, Rachel tries to do some good for the sick while remaining a prisoner at Avocet. Meanwhile, Slattery and the crew of Nathan James are in a race against time to save an injured Dr. Tophet and regain control of their ship.”

While it may have a different subject matter than its Sunday-night companion in “Falling Skies,” it would be silly to not act as though the two shows were devoid of similarities. One thing that does feel clear to us right now is that both shows need a certain semblance of hope to survive. Obviously within the world of “The Last Ship” there’s not a whole lot of hope going around, but there needs to be an element of something to believe in. This will remain one of the show’s challenges.
