‘Britain’s Got Talent’ final review: Jamie Raven, Isaac Waddington, Old Men Grooving, and more
Tonight marks the final for “Britain’s Got Talent,” and we are going to do our best to specifically document almost everything that happens in here from start to finish. What does that mean? On this particular occasion, it means us doing a live review of everything that happens over the course of the performance portion of the show.
We will be updating the entire article live as the show progresses; after it wraps, we will be creating a special article for the results over at the link here. Stay tuned!
Entity Allstars – A great way to raise the game, given that you had a routine here that included a gladiator theme, strong dancing, but also some crazy stunts. The move at the very end when it comes to the Golden Buzzer was especially cool, and not a repeat of the “egg incident” as Simon Cowell put it.
UDI – We wonder why the group is so invested in having the guy in the red hoodie in here! They are extremely skilled and this was a powerful and even moving performance about the triumph of heroism, but we feel still almost like it could be even better than what we saw.
The Neales – We do really like Jason Mraz and his song “I Won’t Give Up.” But we got aboard this act thinking that they were going to be a doo-wop group, and they’ve since morphed into some sort of emotional family band. They’re still goo, but their commercial viability has been cut into pieces.
Boyband – This was a very interesting transition looking back on some of the humor and fun that they brought to their first audition. We actually do think that Simon Cowell was right to a certain extent: While we do feel that it was technically the best performance from the group that we have seen to this point, at the same time it also suffers somewhat from losing some of what made them unique in the first place.
Jessie-Jane McParland – We felt like she would be named the viewers’ wild card the moment that the voting lines were open, mostly because she was so recent and she has an act that is at least very different than any other that is out there. She’s definitely intense and has some moves, but there is a limitation on this sort of act, and we really cannot see it lighting the Royal Variety stage on fire.
Danny Posthill – He’s charming. Impression acts are such a tough sell since you have to nail almost every one of them. Danny did a great job. He’s probably not going to win, but what he should be hoping from this is that he gets some better gigs at better comedy clubs.
Calum Scott – This was painful. The previous favorite in our mind to win the competition forgot the lyrics of “Diamonds,” and it was so hard to recover from it. He choked. We really wish that we could give him a pass because we like him so much, but we wouldn’t excuse away a magic act who messed up a trick this late in the competition.
Cor Glanaethwy – Sensational. While Calum struggled to maintain that favorite status, the Welsh choir delivered another stirring performance that keeps them in the discussion. Easily, they will be the largest group to ever win this series if they do come out on top.
Old Men Grooving – Sure, they are cheeky and silly, but they were so much fun tonight! This was by far their best performance; they grooved, they took risks, and they threw so many different styles and routines in here that we could see it getting a ton of hits online.
Jamie Raven – After what happened with the camera angle on this past episode, we wondered if he would really have a chance to redeem himself. Luckily, he came out tonight with a trick that was not only well-executed, but also incredibly entertaining and also fun to watch.
Isaac Waddington – We’re really not a big fan of the acts that feature repeat performances, and with that we penalize Isaac ever so slightly. He’s still a good singer, but after watching all of the vocalists tonight we still feel like the choir are the only fitting winners in this category.
Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse – This to us is more than just a dog act. We can tell that she really does care tremendously for these animals, and she seems to legitimately love them. At first we weren’t so keen on the three-legged dog appearing at the end almost like an emotional ploy, but seeing the way the dog loved her wiped away so much of that cynicism in the blink of an eye.
