’19 Kids and Counting’: TLC issues statement on pulling episodes

tlcThe moment that the news regarding Josh Duggar of “19 Kids and Counting” fame had been investigated for child molestation more than a decade ago was revealed, we knew that there were going to be steep consequences and heavy action on the part of TLC. This is a network that claims to be for the whole family, and there is already a precedent here with how they canceled “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”

We reported earlier today that the network has officially pulled all episodes of the series about the massive Duggar clan, and while they have not officially canceled the series yet, they did share the following statement:

“Effective immediately, TLC has pulled all episodes of 19 Kids And Counting currently from the air. We are deeply saddened and troubled by this heartbreaking situation, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and victims at this difficult time.”

What has been interesting to us is seeing what some of the reaction has been from the average TLC viewer / fan of the show. We have heard from some saying that the show should be canceled outright, whereas others are continuing to stand by the family while asking others to have “forgiveness.” Also, we have heard from some demanding that the show remove Josh from the equation, but continue to show the rest of the family as to not penalize them for his actions. The problem with that to a certain extent is that patriarch Jim Bob Duggar has been under fire for his handling of the situation many years ago.

We do stand by our feeling that there is nothing that TLC can do other than cancel the show, mostly because any other decision will be met with massive backlash on their part. We’re honestly surprised that they have not gone ahead and made this decision already, though they may be dealing with some various legal loops or other issues first.

As we mentioned earlier, we have a poll at this link as to whether or not TLC should cancel the show. This morning 68% were in favor of ending it, while now that number has fell to 63.3%.
