Ratings: Is ‘Wayward Pines’ on the rise? Also, Red Nose Day successes
To call Thursday night a quiet one for TV would be one of the biggest understatements known to all mankind. It was a deathly quiet night. Sweeps are over, and this is the time when most networks understandably are sitting down and taking a super-long breather.
The only regularly-scheduled program on last night was Fox’s “Wayward Pines,” which can at least rejoice that it drew a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its second episode, an increase from the premiere. That is still not a great figure by any means, but it shows that everyone who caught the premiere at least enjoyed it enough to see what the show was bringing to the table the second time around. Repeating the premiere beforehand (which drew a 0.8) was probably smart since there was so much competition last week. If these ratings keep up or increase a point or two (it has proven already to be doing very well in DVR viewing), this could end up being a sleeper success for the network this summer.
Meanwhile, NBC’s much-hyped Red Nose Day fundraiser was unfortunately a ratings flop with just a 0.8 rating and slightly more than 3 million viewers. This is a big event in the United Kingdom, and the network did recruit many big names in an effort to turn this into something that could be done every year. More than $20 million was reportedly raised for charities benefiting children in need, so at least this was a success in that regard.
We imagine that there are going to be some quieter weeks ahead when it comes to reporting some of the latest ratings developments, mostly because that is the sort of season that we’re in.
