Critics’ Choice TV Awards 2015: Will Allison Janney, Melanie Lynskey, Eden Sher win Supporting Comedy Actress?
The Critics’ Choice TV Awards are coming on May 31, and if you are new to CarterMatt, we have been spotlighting various categories and nominees over the course of the past several weeks.
Specifically today, we are here to talk a little bit about the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series field. While we like many of the names involved here, we also have to be sensible here when we talk about this being potentially one of the more lopsided fields out there this year.
The nominees
Allison Janney, “Mom” (CBS)
Carrie Brownstein, “Portlandia” (IFC)
Eden Sher, “The Middle” (ABC)
Judith Light, “Transparent” (Amazon)
Mayim Bialik, “The Big Bang Theory” (CBS)
Melanie Lynskey, “Togetherness” (HBO)
Who should win – It’s very cool to see Brownstein and Sher on the ballot, given that they are incredibly underrated and you could say the same thing about their shows. However, at the same time we may say here that Lynskey is the most underrated person on the list period. “Togetherness” is a very good show, and we always thought that she never got the credit she was due for “Two and a Half Men,” a show that was not always easy to do for a variety of different reasons. We’re probably going against the grain here, but she would be our pick.
Who will win – It’s probably going to be Janney, and we’re not going to protest it too much given that she is fantastic and “Mom” has enough heart in it to give some depth to some of its comedy. She is almost a Julia Louis-Dreyfus type for this show in that we could see her being potentially nominated and winning awards for this show for almost its entire run. It stinks probably for other nominees, but we don’t see anyone taking her down. Light maybe has a tiny possibility, but we think most of the “Transparent” love will go to the series itself and star Jeffrey Tambor.
