Jon Stewart tributes David Letterman on last ‘Daily Show’ before ‘Late Show’ finale

The Daily Show with Jon StewartDavid Letterman is ending “The Late Show” on Wednesday night, and as we get closer and closer to that date, we imagine that there are going to be more and more stories and tributes coming out about the host. On “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” Thursday night, we finally had a tribute that came out courtesy of Jon himself.

Stewart’s story is an interesting one, mostly because of the fact that Letterman was kind enough years ago to appear on the last episode of “The Jon Stewart Show,” which aired briefly on MTV before getting canceled. At the end of the show, Letterman gave Stewart some advice to hang in there, and just because this show did not get canceled does not mean that he is automatically a failure. Of course, and wouldn’t you know it, Stewart found success with “The Daily Show” not long after that succeeding Craig Kilborn.

The video below features Jon talking about Dave, and wishing him all the best moving forward. We know already that many other late-night comics are doing their part to pay their respects. Jimmy Kimmel is refusing to do a show against his longtime idol, while Conan O’Brien has claimed that he will encourage some viewers to switch over to Dave’s show as soon as it begins airing.

Both Letterman and Stewart are saying goodbye to their shows this year; Jon will be replaced later this year by Trevor Noah, while Dave will be replaced by Stephen Colbert beginning this fall on CBS.
