‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 finale review: Meredith dances it out again
After everything that “Grey’s Anatomy” has put us through during the eleventh season of the show, isn’t it time that we had a few moments to smile and laugh about? This is precisely what we were feeling during at least part of “You’re My Home.” Maybe we just have a soft spot in our heart for weddings at a time when everyone on this show is either fighting, getting divorced, or dying.
The couple we were the most concerned about going into the finale was Alex and Jo, given Meredith’s ever-increasing and understanding closeness while she wanted to move into something new together. She did decide to stay in Seattle, but wants the two to move into their own place, and then have him sell the house to Meredith so that she has a place where she can feel at home. Richard and Catherine were the couple to be married, and it was an understated affair that taught us that he does not have to be the control-freak that we have known him to be.
What was the big surprise of the episode was the inclusion of a Patrick Dempsey scene aboard the family. We thought we had seen the last of him on the show, and while this was a flashback continue some footage we’d already seen, it was still worth it to give Amelia that necessarily bit of closure that she was not entirely getting before now. For the past couple of episodes, her big source of rage has simply been a matter of not getting the proper chance to have that farewell.
Did we smile by the end of the finale? We’re not sure that this is the right way to put it, but it was certainly heartwarming. After pain, tears, and devastation, the characters felt at home. Meredith danced it out, and realized that there is no other way to move other than forward. There is no devastating cliffhanger this time. It was a chance to breathe, and something we needed … even if it may seem like somewhat of a quiet hour compared to other finales out there on the landscape. Grade: B+.
