CBS Upfronts: Watch trailers for ‘Limitless,’ ‘Angel From Hell,’ and ‘Life in Pieces’
While CBS has yet to give us trailers for every single new show that they plan to release, at least the network was kind enough today to doll out some of the ones premiering this fall. It’s a wide range of series before, and we at least admire some attempts to move beyond the multi-cam sitcoms and the crime procedurals. None of the show below fit into those two categories.
“Limitless” – We admit that we forgot that Jennifer Carpenter was even in this! The story is a sort-of-sequel to the Bradley Cooper movie, and as we mentioned earlier today, Cooper is going to be crossing over into this for at least an episode in his old role. (He even is an executive-producer, which is one of the reasons why he is so heavily involved.) The trailer’s almost verbatim what you would expect in a TV version of the movie.
“Angel From Hell” – Jane Lynch stars as Amy, the guardian angel to Allison (“Psych” alum Maggie Lawson) and a woman who is going to help her get out of a variety of awkward situations (while possibly also making them worse). We love the title and we also love the stars. The comedy still has a little ways to go, but there is potential.
“Life in Pieces” – It’s a multi-generational comedy that feels to us almost like funny “Parenthood.” It’s got a great cast that includes James Brolin, Colin Hanks, and Betsy Brandt, and it took up about thirty seconds to realize why this is coming on after “The Big Bang Theory”; few comedy pilots have a trailer as strong as this.
“Code Black” – It’s yet another medical show! We’re honestly not that optimistic about this based on what we’re seeing so far. Even if it has a cool name, there are just too many other similar shows out there, and really, there is probably only about one hospital show a season we can take.
