‘Ink Master’ season 6: Masters vs Apprentices Spotlight: Erik Campbell vs Marisa LaRen

Ink MasterThere are only three women on this season of “Ink Master” and two of them have less then five years experience in the industry, but does that mean that you can count them out of the competition? You really shouldn’t. The apprentices (all three of the women are apprentices) this season have fairly stacked portfolios and are hungry to prove themselves and we have a good feeling that an apprentice could win this whole thing and it might even be Marisa LaRen even though she has the least amount of experience out of everyone competing.

The Master: Erik Campbell

Tattooing: He has been tattooing for 13 years and is an owner and artist at Black Pearl Tattoo in Grand Junction, CO. He is known for more of an illustrative style when it comes to tattooing, which is a nice change since we don’t have anyone else in the competition really specializing in that. His style makes us crazy excited to see him tattooing this season, especially after seeing some of his previous work. If you haven’t had a chance to check out what he’s done, you really should… you won’t be disappointed!

The Apprentice: Marisa LaRen

Tattooing: She has been tattooing for 3 years and is an artist at Vatican Tattoos in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She has the least amount of experience in the competition going in, but don’t count her out based on that. She loves doing neotraditional and she’s really great at it.

Erik vs Marisa: These two seem to have a lot of respect for each other as artists, but definitely know what each other’s weaknesses are. She feels that Erik is very critical about himself and has a tendency to over think things and we’ve seen that take down many artists on this show. Marisa is very self aware and realizes that there are people there with a lot more experience, but she’s using it to push her to do better. The fact that a woman has never won the show is also a fire driving her to do her best and honestly we would love to see a woman take it all at some point (and we still think that Sarah Miller got robbed of the title in season 2). That being said we don’t want a woman to win just because they are a woman and it has to be whoever is the best and when it comes to pure skills we think that Erik probably has the edge over Marisa as long as he can keep the stress of the competition at bay.

Do you think that Marisa can beat her mentor as well as all of the other artists and become the first female winner of “Ink Master”? Leave us a comment in the box below and tell us what you think.
