‘Jane the Virgin’ season 2: premiere date speculation, challenges, more for Gina Rodriguez series
“Jane the Virgin” had a heck of a run on TV this year. Not only did it surpass our expectations (we were extremely worried about it getting canceled before the premiere), it ended up becoming a critical champion and it won Gina Rodriguez a Golden Globe. As you probably know by now, this is the first time that The CW has ever won a Globe for a performance in one of its shows.
Now moving into a second season, where does the series go from here? The biggest challenge is simply going to be figuring out how to create a dynamic story with a strong selling point. Season 1 was in many ways framed around Jane’s surprise pregnancy, and the thing about that story was that you did know that it would have an individual end date.
Luckily, the show has built up so much stock in people like Jane, Rafael, and Xo that they probably do not need the same sort of main selling point to keep you invested; they probably just need to craft great storylines and characters moving forward.
The biggest challenge for season 2 could be one related to ratings. The show routinely scored 0.4 ratings in the 18-49 demographic during this season, and we’re not sure if that is enough to keep it on Mondays or not. Feasibly, we could see it getting bumped to Fridays, though that would be a difficult spot for it to stay afloat. Let’s just say that we are very curious to see what sort of decisions The CW makes at their upfront presentation later this week.
