Fox Upfronts: ‘New Girl’ season 5, new ‘X-Files’ being held to midseason
While “New Girl” may have been renewed for a fifth season, it’s looking like you will be waiting for a little while to see just happens next with the show.
Sunday night, it was confirmed that the series is going to be on hold until early 2016, where it will premiere once again with new episodes. Fox has already allowed the show to film a few updates in advance of star Zooey Deschanel’s upcoming maternity leave. There will be four episodes in season 5 that do not include her, but there are already some other ideas that the writers have figured out for those episodes that will really emphasize some of the other characters in the ensemble. We would not think of this delay as any real major slight on the show, even though it not the ratings warrior it once was. Who knows? Maybe airing the show without delays will help stop what has been one of its larger problems?
Also being put on hold by Fox for the time being is “The X-Files” reboot starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. While it is definitely still happening, the six-episode project is not going to be airing until at some point in January. To us, this is perfect, since it will allow every week to air in succession without baseball or the holidays getting in the way. Granted, we know that this is a long time to wait.
Then again, did you really think that you were going to get a chance to see a new version of “The X-Files” at this point last year? Sometimes, you take what you can get.
