‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 finale spoilers: Julie Plec on ‘will Elena die?’ questions

Delena -At the moment, we definitely do understand whether or not there are concerns over the status of Elena Gilbert on “The Vampire Diaries” going into the finale. Thursday night’s new episode left the character in a bad way, and given that Nina Dobrev is departing the series, it does make sense that the show would need to do something definitive with her. Is killing her off a remote possibility?

Before we say too much else, let’s turn to a woman who would know better than anyone. As executive producer Julie Plec told The Hollywood Reporter, some of the promos that are out there for this episode could be a little bit misleading: “There’s a lot more going on in the episode than if you just take those trailers at face value.”

If we were to chime in right now with our own two cents about what could be coming up, it would be by saying at the moment that it feels extremely unlikely that Elena would be killed off. This is a little different than “Grey’s Anatomy,” which is a show that continually tries to remind you how terrible life can be. It’s fantasy, really, and the notion of immortality is played off at times as a hot concept rather than something painful. Losing Elena would just depress the heck out of the show’s young viewers.

In the end, a more reasonable scenario here would be to have Elena depart a la Jeremy, and that leaves the door open for her to eventually return for a series finale or something else. We don’t get the sense that Nina wants to put this show completely behind her.
