ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, episode 21 review: The Foxtail mystery
“Scandal” has never shied away from hard topics, and it is with that in mind you cannot be even remotely surprised that tonight’s episode touched on the subject of rape in the military. This is obviously a tough subject, and one that has been an integral part of a variety of shows, including “NCIS” recently.
What “Scandal” did is the same sort of thing that they always do: Touch on a subject with bravery, and do not back away from a viewpoint. Through some work behind the scenes coupled with an alliance with Fitz, Olivia Pope managed to prove that a high-ranking officer did rape someone ranked under him, and was not able to get away with it despite all of the tape that he thought would have protected him. He is put away, and this ends a powerful standalone story … though Mellie also uses it in her campaign speech later.
Mellie actually used the rape policies of the White House to get more favor in Virginia, which is where we also learned in one of the night’s larger shockers that she is apparently Foxtail, and the target of a heady plan by Command, which still has some sort of unknown intention. Despite some pretty gruesome interrogation scenes, Russell refused to give up any key information on the organization or their plans, and due to this, we are now in the position that we are in now, going into a finale with great uncertainty.
At least we had an excellent “Scandal” to lead us into it. It focused mostly on politics over issues, and we always think that the show is at its best under these circumstances. Grade: A-.
