‘Mad Men’ series finale: Matthew Weiner offers a ‘tease’ on ‘Conan’
There are many words that come to mind when we think of “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner (genius, intelligent, meticulous), but “prankster” is not necessarily one of them. Well, that’s where things change ever so slightly on Thursday night’s new episode of “Conan.”
Weiner is present on the show to promote the finale episodes of the AMC series, and near the end of his funny interview (which includes a dig at studio Lionsgate over the budget), he decides to share what he claims is an exclusive “clip” from the upcoming finale. This is a guy who really does not want to rule out any fan theories in particular just in case some of them turn out to be right, but it just so happens that there is something thing that he is apparently still willing to rule out: It’s really silly, but probably still worth the price of admission.
As for what Weiner is going to do from here, we imagine working on feature films could be somewhere on his priority list now that he has conquered television to the degree that he has. After a certain point, it’s always worthwhile to try something new, and between this and “The Sopranos” he has worked on two of the greatest series in history.
As for his cast, we know already that Jon Hamm is doing movies, Elisabeth Moss has done stage work, and some of the supporting players have opted more for some other TV gigs. They’ll all have no problem being swooped up somewhere.
