‘Big Brother Canada 3’ interview: Kevin Martin on Brittnee’s big move, throwing competitions

Kevin -It makes sense that Kevin Martin is a poker player on “Big Brother Canada,” if for no other reason than that this was a guy who was at times very difficult to figure out throughout his season. While he was very smart and obviously had all the tools to be great at this game, he was almost too obvious of a player. He was never really that safe unless one of his big allies was in power.

Even still, Kevin was a huge personality, a great narrator in the Diary Room, and someone we’re going to miss as a part of the season. We had a chance to talk with him briefly in a conference call today. As a reminder, we were limited to just three questions, and since he is a part of the jury, we could not say anything that would spoil events in the game.

CarterMatt – Before the show, you said you wanted to throw every competition. What made you want to change that mindset?

Kevin Martin – Truly, that was my intention! As soon as I ended up on the block against B as the target, I pulled out that Veto and it was kind of a must-win. Then the next week I accidentally won an HoH Competition. It was an accidental win! Not my intention at all. The next week I was able to slide my way back into the shadows, and by the ten we got down to ten people it was like ‘game on, I’m going to be a target no matter what.’ Ugh, I got off to such a bad start with those two big competition wins! My plan kind of fell apart very quickly.

Do you have any regrets about using Brittnee as a pawn now that she was the one to nominate you and ultimately send you home?

Poetic justice. It’s so poetic that I used her as a pawn and she got me out next week. It was beautiful! I’m not bitter. My hat goes off to her, well done, Brittnee.

Do I have regrets about it? No. It was the most logical decision. How can I predict that Brittnee is going to have HoH during a Triple Eviction? The possibility of that was so low, and it happened and I got screwed by it. But my decision to use Brittnee as a pawn was the most logical decision at that time. Well done, Brittnee! It was a big move. She has been pawned the [last several weeks], but she now has a case if she gets to the final two where she can say ‘I did play this game, I did make a move.’ You earned my respect.

Who did you want to bring to the end with you?

Because of how strong I came off with those competition wins, I had a lot of options. To get to the final two was going to be so hard with the target on my back. I would’ve brought Willow, I probably would have brought Pili, I would have brought Brittnee, and I would have brought Sarah. If I could have got to the end with any of those people, I would have had a shot and a good chance to plead my case for the title. Unfortunately, I’m not going to have that chance for the title of ‘Big Brother Canada 3’ winner.
