Fox close to picking up ‘Minority Report,’ John Stamos comedy
While we are not at the upfronts just yet, we are starting to at least get some word on what specific shows are getting extremely close to being picked up by networks. Some of these should excite you, even if you likely saw their future coming a mile away.
Per a report from Deadline, one of these said shows is “Minority Report.” How can you now predict this? It is an adaptation of an extremely popular movie, and it is a chance for Fox to experiment with a genre in science fiction that they have shown some affection over the years. Let’s just hope that this one lasts longer than “Firefly” or “Almost Human.” The fact that this show is already staffing is a pretty clear indication that it will be going into production on a season this summer. We expect big ratings for the premiere, but the quality will have to be high in order to maintain it.
In the comedy sphere, the news is also good for the John Stamos comedy “Grandpa,” which features him playing just that, but only at a pretty young age. This is a nice return for the former “Full House” star to traditional TV. Ironically, it comes at a time when he is executive-producing the revival “Fuller House” on Netflix.
Fox has probably more holes to fill on their network schedule than most. While they did find some success with “Gotham” and a massive hit in “Empire,” their comedies are for the most part weak, “Sleepy Hollow” sunk mightily this season, “Bones” is slowly withering away, and “The Following” and “Backstrom” are likely to be canceled.
