‘The Daily Show’ tributes Samantha Bee with lengthy montage
Earlier this week, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” said goodbye to one of the greatest correspondents over the course of their history in Samantha Bee. As a matter of fact, she was the longest-tenured correspondent in the history of the show. We probably don’t have the history at the moment to fairly rank the greatest correspondents ever, but at the moment we would say that John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, and Bee are at the top of our list. Steve Carell wasn’t around long enough, and he would probably be in our second tier alongside Jason Jones and Rob Corddry.
The video segment below is a little different than the way that Stewart handled the goodbye segments to both Oliver and Jones. These two guys sat out there with Jon while he played a highlight reel. Here, Bee stayed offstage until she came on, clearly emotional about saying goodbye to the show. Maybe she knew that she would get teary-eyed trying to stay out there.
While there is a part of us that still wishes that Bee was chosen over Trevor Noah to be the new host of the series, she does have a new comedy show coming at TBS. While we do now know much about it yet, we’d love to see it be on after “Conan” to try to prove that there is a market in late-night.
We’ll hopefully have more on Bee’s show in the coming weeks.
