‘Royal Pains’ season 7 spoilers: ‘The Mindy Project’ actor scores guest gig

While the future of “The Mindy Project” at the moment is definitely more than a little bit unclear, we can still tell you one other thing: At least one actor known to this show is getting a gig for the summer over on USA’s “Royal Pains.”

As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Ed Weeks has signed on to guest-star in the upcoming seventh season of the Hamptons medical drama (and a personal favorite), playing the part of a method actor who decides to study Hank extensively in preparation for his next project. The character’s name is Cole Chapman Smith, which is almost exactly the sort of name we would expect a method actor to have. (Remember here that Daniel Day-Lewis has three names, as well.) The idea of anyone trying to be Hank should be hilarious, and wouldn’t it be interesting if Hank actually does manage to take a few things away from this experiment. Maybe he can learn something about himself in the process.

The seventh season of “Royal Pains” will premiere on June 2, and in general, you should expect some more shenanigans from Hank, Evan, and the rest of the cast. We know that the series is inching ever closer to the end, and with the second part of season 7 airing in 2016, we have to brace for the possible expectation that this could be the end of the road.

Hopefully, we’ll have some more in the way of casting scoop on the show before we get to the end of the hiatus. Stay tuned.
