‘Backstrom’ season 2: Is there any renewal hope at all for Rainn Wilson drama?
For those of you who have been keeping up with Fox’s “Backstrom” over the past several weeks, then you most likely know that tonight marks the end of season 1. It’s been a quirky, at-times-fun series for the network, and above all it has been nice to see Rainn Wilson back to TV.
However, this is not a show that has resonated well with viewers, if it has even resonated at all. It failed to get off to a great start, and never really bounced forward from there. Hart Hanson managed to deliver a great success story for the network in “Bones,” but much like “The Finder,” this show just never got off the ground right and it is likely to be canceled come the upfront presentation in May. The network may be somewhat struggling, but in between “Gotham” and “Empire,” they do at least have two new series that are coming back. That will be joined by “Sleepy Hollow” and most likely “Bones,” which is likely to return even if it is for a shortened final season.
Is it possible that the fate for “Backstrom” could have changed had it had a better timeslot? Maybe, since the show has spent most of its season airing against “The Blacklist” (another show about putting away bad guys) and also “Scandal.” That did not leave it much in the way of viewers.
While we are likely to see this show coming to a close, hopefully Wilson and the rest of the cast will be able to secure some other gigs for themselves in the near future; maybe they will even have a chance to play someone on “Bones,” given the Hanson connection is already there.

It’s a great show. Backstrom reminds me of Columbo. Backstrom is the only show I watch on Fox. I gave up on Bones last season.
Backstrom is edgy and intriguing. Please bring it back.

Backstrom is quirky, hilarious and smart! One of the best shows on network TV. We need to have a season 2 after that finale…really, how could you cancel on us after that ending?!!

This show is a great show that deserves another season. If it’s placed in a better time slot it’ll definitely pick up speed! The cast is great and had amazing chemistry and I loved the story line of Backstrom. #RenewBackstrom

Is there a way to get a petition started as has been done for other shows? I accidentally came upon Backstrom on Hulu and LOVE it. I laughed out loud at some parts while watching it alone. I’ve told all my friends to look it up on Hulu (hoping that might cause it to tip in favor of renewal). . . . .Sad that this might be the only season, I thought the actors were great and that the writing was really top notch, especially as the season went along. . . .

I rarely watch TV and this show had me interested from the get go. Well written with lots of plot twists and turns and a few ‘I didn’t see that comings’. I agree with other posters here, drop the idiotic Last man on Earth and renew Backstrom.

Here’s hoping for a well-deserved renewal! I’m so tired of seeing great shows get cancelled early because 98% of the globe isn’t watching. That’s why TV is overloaded by cheap,
brainless reality and competition shows. Bring the Backstrom ensemble back for another season!!

I love backstrom so much I would be devastated if it got canceled. My fiancé hates crime shows and I love them. This is the only show we can watch together and both be happy. I’m so interested in this show and the characters. I hope they don’t cancel.

Backstrom is a show that should be extended. It is well written, edgy and the character developments have been spot-on. It would be a shame to let all that collective talent go.

I am a conservative republican. If this show doesn’t offend me it shouldn’t anyone according to “political correctness”. I LOVE this show. He dishes on everyone not just a particular genre. If your not watching I am confused. This show has it all humor, sadness, relationships issues. Race issues “his father is an Indian”. The season finale was a 10. Please don’t cancel this show!! I think it is one of the best shows on TV. It needs to be replayed on different nights and promote it. I only seen a few previews before it came on. Its a good show with an excellent cast. I didn’t know who Rainin Wilson was before this show. Now I am a huge fan. This is the best character I have seen Thomas Dekker play. He’s great in it. You will make a big mistake by cancelling this show. Give it one more chance and repeat it during the early summer give others a chance to see what they have been missing!!

An enthusiastic thumbs up for Backstrom, a worthwhile hour spent in the great wasteland that is broadcast TV. Kudos to Rainn Wilson and his fellow cast members for a job well done.

Great show, but that usually means the kiss of death to the network know-it-alls!
Only other shows that I watch on Fox are Sleepy Hollow and Gotham!
That’s because I grew up in New York City, and when I got a car, we used to hang out up in Tarrytown!

We love Backstrom in our house. I don’t understand the whole “In competition on same night as another show” nonsense, we dvr backstrom, blacklist and many other shows that have same time-slots plus you can watch many shows free online on abc, nbc,fox… and if you wait a little you’ll find it on netflix, hulu…
It’s a great show, I hope they renew it; but considering how dumbed-down the population is becoming, it’l probably be replaced with some reality show called “Snake charmer virgins from Alaska” or some other low budget garbage that some people actually think is “REAL”

You said it and I was thinking the same thing. It’s a good thing I like to read cause if we had to depend on the decision making at Fox, TV would be really sad. I’m very disappointed about Backstrom.

I have mixed feelings. I like the series, but at times it feels like it should be more. If it gets renewed, I’ll probably watch Season 2. But, I’m not sure I’m invested enough at this point to care either way.

I dropped watching Blacklist for Backstrom since in the first 10 minutes it had me hooked! Took me 2 episodes to enjoy Blacklist, whereas this was immediate. These actors work great together are absolutely hilarious and would be a crime to drop this show! Why don’t Fox drop the trash like New Girl and Last Man on Earth, instead of classy shows like Backstrom?

This has honestly been one of the most incredible premiere shows of this season in my opinion, but I can see how the timeslot opposition could have divided it. I’m a big fan of both of the other shows it runs alongside as well — I just DVR all my TV. I really, *really* hope it gets a second season, though.

There were several moments through the season that shows how much heart Backstrom has. The closing moments of the finale were outstanding. I hope renews it and puts it in a better timeslot. I think it deserves that chance.
