ABC’s ‘Revenge’ officially canceled; showrunner talks series finale

Revenge -In many ways, the cancellation of “Revenge” has been one of the worst-kept secrets out there. Everyone has been well aware of the fact that the series is ending, and in that way, most of these same people for the most part are merely preparing for it to start to wind down.

Now, the news is officially in that the May 10 episode “Two Graves” will indeed serve as the final send-off to Emily Thorne and the rest of the cast of characters in the Hamptons. This news was confirmed by showrunner Sunil Nayar, who told Entertainment Weekly that this decision was reached after many discussions with ABC, and also the creative feeling that the show had run its course and there was no real need to continue things:

“We can officially tell our fans that this will be the end of the story … We’ve been talking to the network and we all just wanted to make sure that we felt very confident. Now that everybody has seen the finale—which is fabulous—everybody understands that as much as we all adore the show, it has hit exactly the mark it needed to to end. This is the series finale of Revenge that will be airing in a couple weeks.”

Nayar did say that while there is some closure, there is also a minor cliffhanger-of-sorts in the finale. Therefore, you’ll have at least one thread that is reasonably open for interpretation. We are all right with that. We want to think that maybe at least one character, even if it is not Emily, can leave this complicated world of the Hamptons happy. We are just going to have to wait and see if that is possible.
