‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: ‘The Mentalist’ alum scores key arc

The future -This is turning out to be quite the busy time for Joe Adler at the moment. He is coming off of a series-regular gig on the final season of “The Mentalist,” and before that he also appeared in “The Maze Runner” and had a brief arc on “Shameless.”

So where is he heading now? Think the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in a role that could be one of the main ways “Grey’s Anatomy” deals with no longer having Patrick Dempsey on the show. As first written by The Hollywood Reporter, Adler will be appearing over the final episodes of the season, potentially as a new intern at the hospital. Given the timing, our assumption here is that this is a trial-of-sorts for him to come aboard in a more permanent capacity next season, depending on what Shonda Rhimes and ABC thinks of him in the role.

Of course, one interesting coincidence here is that Adler came on “The Mentalist” right after a major shakeup on that show in the death of Red John, and ended up becoming a major part of the story there. Here, he is coming on after one of the most dramatic moves in the history of the series. This should be an opportunity for him to flex his acting chops, and the good thing about “Grey’s Anatomy” is that there is always potential for great stories to be written in a hospital.

Be on the lookout tomorrow, as we will have further previews on the next new installment “She’s Leaving Home.”
