‘Dancing with the Stars’ 20: Latest on Derek Hough’s injury

Will Derek Hough actually take to the stage during the “Dancing with the Stars” live show Monday night? Based on some of what we’re seeing right now, it certainly does not look good.

In the video below from “Good Morning America,” Derek claims that he cannot dance, but is still working with partner Nastia Liukin and fellow pro dancer Sasha Farber, who could replace him in the event he is unable to go for the show. We know that the series does like to hype up injuries only to have the person turn out okay in the end, and while we would not be surprised in the event that he actually dances tonight, this may be a case where the hype around the injury is actually justified.

In the end, what we would say to Derek is that there is no pressing need for him to go out and perform tonight. Sasha is a great dancer, and Nastia is still far and away better than some of the other contestants right now. It may suit him more in the long run to take these next few weeks in order to get some rest, and then go out to perform when he is fully healed. That way, he keeps him long-term health a priority, and he can find more ways to help his partner in the interim.

Tonight, we will have a chance to see Nastia perform some routine that is anchored in a particular period of time. Regardless of the her partner, the challenge here will be portraying the era and the dance at the same time.
