Bruce Jenner E! docuseries to premiere this summer

E! Logo -Obviously, Friday night ended up drawing a wide array of headlines when it comes to Bruce Jenner. The former Olympian turned reality TV star gave a lengthy interview with Diane Sawyer on Friday night, and it was one where Jenner explained the decision to identify as a woman. Both Twitter and news websites went ablaze over the interview, which has been greatly hyped by ABC for weeks.

One of the strange things about this interview from start to finish was simply the fact that it was on ABC, and not NBC, which is owned by the same parent company as E!, otherwise known as the network for all things Kardashian. Not one to be completely overshadowed by the interview, E! chose tonight to announce that they are going to have a new docuseries starring Jenner about the transition process airing this summer. This has been rumored for weeks, but it is now finally official with the premiere date set for July 26.

So will this be a success? We imagine that it will based on interest alone. While there are a variety of programs that are opening up and showing more gay and lesbian people on TV (fictional or not), there are not many who represent the transgender community. Jenner is one of the most high-profile members of this community, and much attention will be cast on the show because of that.

In the process, E! of course will continue to cover all things Kardashian. Given that the network has brought the family fame and fortune and vice-versa, we really don’t see this particular relationship ending anytime soon.
