‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Candice Accola on Michael Trevino farewell

In the midst of all of the talk about Nina Dobrev departing “The Vampire Diaries,” it is easy to admit that the exit of Michael Trevino is getting somewhat lost in the shuffle. Then again, can you really be that shocked? Dobrev has been the face of the series and the center of the main love triangle for years. Another part of the equation here is that there may still be a chance Trevino shows up on a couple of occasions in the seventh season, so this may not be good-bye forever. All we really know about his status for now is that he is not returning as a regular.

Given that his future is still uncertain, it is nice to see that the writers are planning to honor the character’s history in every way that they can … especially with some of the characters he was especially close to. This includes Caroline, and Candice Accola tells E! News that there are some important moments coming for the two:

“Michael and I do have some scenes coming up. We’re going to be reminded of the journey that they’ve had up to this point … It’s just very real. It was a very honest moment between the characters. It was just very simple and honest of where these characters are at this point in their lives.”

Now what you have to wonder is what side of Caroline will be speaking to Tyler, given that she has been on quite a vampire-bender (a vender?) since turning off her humanity earlier this season. We’d like to see that story end well before the finale, mostly because we feel like Elena deserves a proper goodbye with her longtime friend.
